www.graphic.com.gh – Twenty-five tennis players and four coaches have embarked on a two-week residential camping at the Winneba Sports College in the Central Region.
The camp, initiated by the Ghana Tennis Federation and sponsored by the McDan Group of Companies, serves as part of the preparation for the national junior boys team as they get ready to represent West Africa in the Africa Juniors Competition to be staged in Morocco from September 9 to 17.
International Tennis Federation (ITF) Level 2 coaches – Yahaya Macaule, Fred Egyir, Doe Adjani and Bernard Ashitey Armaah will assist Coach Noah Bagerbaseh to drill the prodigies at the camp which started last Friday.
Speaking to the media, Mr Daniel McKorley, the CEO of the McDan Group, said the gesture formed part of the company’s vision to develop and promote the game in the country.
“At McDan, our vision is to get Ghana tennis to the good old days where players were ranked in the top 300 in the world. There is the need to invest in the youth to help them become responsible adults so this is our contribution to achieve that goal,” he said.
He hinted about hosting the first ever McDan National Junior Championship, which is scheduled to start from August 21 to 26 for Under-12, U-14 and U-16 Boys and Girls categories.
